Go with whoever offers pickup from home, work, or the SkyTrain plus weekend and evening times. The best driving lessons are the ones you can actually show up for without rearranging your whole life.
They'll have you do normal stuff around town, turns, lane changes, parking, maybe a hill start if you're lucky. The examiner mostly wants to see you're smooth, check your blind spots, and don't speed through school zones. Breathe and drive like your mom is watching.
Any driving school that starts you in quiet areas and doesn't throw you on Lougheed right away is solid. Beginners need one where the instructor actually listens instead of yelling.
Depends how often you practice but most people need at least 15-25 hours before it stops feeling scary. Solid driving skills come from repeating the little things until they become automatic.
100% yes. Even if your uncle taught you in a parking lot, driving lessons fix the sloppy habits you picked up, like not shoulder checking or riding the brake.
A professional driver doesn't react to idiots cutting them off. They just keep space, signal early, and stay predictable so everyone around them feels safe.
Start on the back streets around Mary Hill or Birchland then slowly hit busier spots like Shaughnessy with your instructor beside you. Confident driving shows up after you've done the same route a bunch of times without drama.
The decent ones definitely do. They'll drive you on the exact routes use so when test day comes nothing feels like a surprise.
Family practice is great for hours behind the wheel but a driving school actually teaches you the rules, points out mistakes right away, and preps you for what the examiner wants to see.
